Teaching approach

Short lessons, slow repetition and plain language, built for adults who are new to technology or returning to it.

How lessons work

A lesson format built around patient repetition

Every course at Valley Digital follows the same rhythm so learners always know what comes next. Lessons are short and focused on one idea. Each idea is shown, practised and then revisited later, because skills settle through repetition rather than through long lectures or rushed demonstrations.

  1. Watch one small idea

Each lesson introduces a single task, such as opening a folder or sending a photo. The instructor shows it at an unhurried pace and names every button and menu used, so nothing is left to guesswork.

What you leave withOne clear skill you can describe in your own words.

  2. Practise on your own device

After the demonstration, you repeat the task on your own computer or phone. Short exercises use everyday situations, like saving a recipe or writing to a relative, so the practice feels useful rather than abstract.

What you leave withA finished exercise on your own screen.

  3. Check what stuck

A brief self-check follows each section. Questions come with explanations for every answer, right or wrong, so a mistake becomes a clear pointer to what to review rather than a mark against you.

What you leave withA short list of points worth reviewing.

  4. Return and repeat

Earlier skills come back inside later lessons, and you can replay any lesson as often as you like. Going over familiar steps again is treated as normal, not as falling behind.

What you leave withConfidence that grows with each return visit.

  5. Apply it to daily life

Each course closes by connecting the skills to real tasks, such as booking an appointment online or video calling family. You decide what to try next, at your own speed.

What you leave withA real task you can now do without help.

Patience, clarity and respect in every lesson
Thompson Valley Digital LearningFounded 2017
Our principles

Patience, clarity and respect in every lesson

Valley Digital began in 2017 in Kamloops with one aim: to make everyday technology feel manageable for adults and seniors. Three values shape how the courses are written. Patience means no lesson is hurried and no question is too basic. Clarity means plain words, with technical terms explained the first time they appear. Respect means we assume our learners are capable adults who simply have not had the chance to practise yet. Our instructors write and review every lesson themselves.

Teaching approach
Independent study

Learning at your own pace, without pressure

The courses are made for studying on your own schedule, at the kitchen table or in a quiet corner. There are no live sessions to keep up with. What follows explains how independent practice works and how you can tell you are progressing.
